Steam Exchange hosts SAMBA

December the 5th, 2007 brought around another meeting for the South Australian Micro Brewers Association, this time in different surroundings; the host being the Steam Exchange brewery at Goolwa.

Present at the meeting were representatives from Barossa Brewing Company, Gulf Brewery, Lobethal Bierhaus, Regency TAFE brewery, Yorke brewing, Bintani and other invited guests.

The meeting got off to a great start with all attendees enjoying a good feed of locally made wood oven pizzas and garlic bread and then it was down to business.

Some of the items on the agenda for discussion were the wrap up from 'Tasting Australia', treasurer's report on the Associations finances, presentation of quotes for the proposed 'SA brewery pamphlet', glass shortages and sponsorship.

From here the well travelled guest speakers for the evening from Bintani, Melbourne gave an incite to the malt and hop supply situation at hand and the issues forecast over the next year or so. Big changes to prices, quality and availability that will affect all brewers were discussed. Such things as fires, changes in farming practice, overall worldwide climate change and drought are set to shake things up.

From here the meeting was concluded and an impromptu brewery tour of interested punters was lead by Head Brewer Simon Fennell.

All throughout the faultless evening the gracious hosts Gareth & Angela Andrews (Managers), Simon Fennell and Thomas Hamann (Brewers) made sure no patron went thirsty. And with a fantastic range of beers hand crafted to perfection, all enjoyed the night.

If you happen to get down to Goolwa on the Fleurieu peninsula, be sure to drop into the Steam Exchange for a true taste sensation. Beer range currently includes Steam Ale, Southerly Buster Dark Ale, I.P.A, and a Stout, available for both over the bar and takeaway.

On a final note be certain to try the 'in house' only available special trial brews, the current oak aged India Pale Ale is just sensational!
