138th Kadina Show
Rodney accepting his awards
Saturday the 16th of August brought around yet another action packed Kadina Annual show, with show patrons and vendors all poised for a fantastic event.
In true Yorke Peninsula fashion, the weather turned on all four seasons in the one day, thus ensuring to keep the show goers guessing if the umbrella or the sunburn cream was the needed accessory.
This year Michael Chappell had the role of the home brew section convenor and he introduced a few changes that would ensure the event grew in numbers and remained a strong area of the overall show.
As a whole the quality and range of entrants was of a much higher standard than previous years, which is a testament to the brewers who spent another year tinkering with batches in the back shed.
Judging began at 10am sharp up in the grandstand box, giving all officials an excellent view of the dramatic horses in action and all the other show splendour.
Officials on the day were Michael Chappell - Section Convenor, Justin Murdock - Judge, Joseph Murdoch - Steward and Heather Chappell helping to keep things running smoothly.
After an in depth judging session, Justin lead Michael, Joseph and Heather through an informal tasting lesson and chatted to entrants about ingredients, sanitation and fermentation finer points.
At the end of the day a late entrant Rodney Edwards formally of Yorketown took out the highly sought after "Most Successful Brewer Award", having also won both the beer and wine sections. His mastering of the full mash or all grain style of brewing was a treat for the senses.
While noting Rodney's accolades an extra congratulations have got to go to all other entrants who also won awards on the day by entering excellent, varied and complex samples.
Thanks for the prizes must go to Coopers for the generous donations and all involved for yet another competitive and well-run event!
