Team YB Clean Sweep

Team YB enjoying the shade

Low tides on January 9th brought around the annual Warooka Progress Association – Flaherty’s Beach Golf Classic again. As expected on display were the pristine white sands, crystal clear blue water and a mad bunch of die hard golfers!

This year was not just a test of golfing prowess, it was made a marathon due to Mother Nature dishing up 43’c of blistering heat, and yes, you guessed it.….no breeze.

Regular thick lathers of sunscreen combined with intermittent shade supplied by the main marquee helped to ease the pain. Wisely the sombrero was hat of choice on the day and the amber fluids where kept flowing to ensure adequate player hydration.

Due to the extreme conditions player numbers were down considerably than last year, but with 90 supporters still hitting the beach, it still made for an action packed event.

As in any battle, there must of course be recognition of great leaders and valiant casualties.
Shane holding out all day with the standard cap V’s the sombrero made for a gutsy call; and although masses of sunscreen were applied, Stuart got exceptionally sunburnt feet reminiscent of ‘permanent’ roman sandals.

Winners on the day were a hat trick and clean sweep by Yorke Brewing! Woo Hoo!
Team YB winning the Main Ambrose Event, Darrin Thom picking up the Men’s Best Net, Shane George collecting the Nearest To Pin (Just 3ft away from $1000 cash!)…..oh….and Justin unfortunately earning the N.A.G.A.

Big thanks must go to the Warooka Progress Association for once again hosting a seamless event and to all the sponsors that make it possible each year.

Special mention as well goes to Warooka Marine & Hardware and RB electronics for the fantastic prizes donated to team Yorke Brewing. Cheers to Ali for the great pics, Shane for making the round trip on the day from Pt Wakefield, Darrin for coming from Adelaide and Stuart from …Canada!

We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Cheers!
